3 fantastic family trips in Sogndalsdalen
A low threshold for the fairest
The cabins in Hodlekve are mainly built on the meters of snow we get every winter. It's the snow that often gets all the focus, which is not undeserved.
But if you want to enjoy the Sogndalsdalen valley to the full, you need to take advantage of all the seasons. And if you want to make the most of it, you have to do it with the rest of the family. When the snow disappears, nature awakens. And some areas become accessible to most people.
Here are three quick hiking tips that will suit your whole group.
If Sogndalsdalen is the king, then the three distinctive side valleys of Laugadal, Frudal and Langedal must be Hersarar. You feel small in between the mountains when you trudge into these valleys. They are all very easy hikes, suitable for the whole family. They're easy to access and there's virtually no hassle. You get straight to the point. Tours served on a silver platter.
Narrow valleys that can often be prone to landslides in winter are transformed into green, lush valleys when the snow falls. Local farmers' sheep graze here, and the landscape is open, easy and pleasant to move around in.
Another advantage of these tours is that you don't have to go far to enjoy the fantastic scenery. You get incredible value for money. After all, the trip is no longer than what you make of it yourself.
That's why these side valley tours are perfect for the whole family.
Lauga Valley
You park at the Brendehaugane parking lot, or "Toggaparkeringa" as the skiers call it. There's even a forest road here that you can follow for a good kilometer into the valley, if you like.
Halfway into the valley you come to the Laugi hut. In front of this, the legend says that the bear was lying down. The walk to the bottom of Laugadalen is about five kilometers. At the very bottom of the valley lies Laugavatnet, which you don't see until you pass Nystølstjørni. Like an oasis, this gem lies below Synnevaskjer and Myrdalsbreen. The snow travels late in this area, at least all the way down into the valley, so the hike is probably best from Jonsok onwards.
Frudalen
This is a valley that is probably best known among skiers and hikers. You park in the small parking lot at the entrance to Frudalstunellen (note that when the river is large, you should cross the bridge on the lower side of the main road), but when the snow rises, there is a majesty that opens up to hikers. Mighty Skjerdingane rises like a fairytale castle straight out of a J.R.R. Tolkien novel. Mount Salen lies at the front as a guard to the castle. It's not that far up from Kvålsbotn to the glacier behind Salen. So it's a good test for little feet, and the feeling of being in your own fairytale world is something everyone will experience. Little trolls often have fun behind the big rock and the other boulders. The hike can be extended depending on your level and experience. At three to four kilometers into the valley, there is a very easy hiking terrain suitable for most people.
Langedalen
From Anestølen, it's a short distance to some of the most beautiful scenery. If you follow the path up along Langedalselvi, you will find fantastic hiking terrain easily accessible up to Tverråni and the start of the ascent to Sogndalseggi. This is where the old logging and traffic road between Sogndalsdalen and Fjærland used to run. Badnakona is on your right as you enter the valley, and Lammanipa on the opposite side. Sogndalseggi is magnificent. The mountains are wild but also a delight to the eye. The ant hills sway nicely in the lush green grass. The goats at Anestølen wish you a good trip into the valley, and they welcome you back when you get back to the car. (There are tolls on the road from Selseng)
Remember that the small trips often provide the greatest experiences. Experiences you can share with your loved ones. The hiking trails you present and teach your children get paid for not only in the experiences on the one trip. Laugadalen, Frudalen and Langedalen are all special in their own way, they all have their own soul. The fact that you have such fantastic trips right outside your car door can only be described as a pure luxury.
The good hiking memories stay with you for a long time.
Have a good trip.
